Basically, beer is made from barley, hops, yeast and water. the extracts on page 20 and 21 are barley concentrated to the consistancy of heavy syrup. The hops are already in the can (unless otherwise specified), and most come with the appropriate yeast under the cover. The extract is mixed with a gallon of water, cooked on your kitchen stove (very little odor), and placed into the fermentor. Water is added to bring the mixture, or wort as it is now called to the proper volume, add the yeast and wait for 5 - 7 days. You have made beer! Bottling is just as simple. After it is in the bottles for about two weeks your beer is ready to drink. Every kit comes with a set of detailed step by step instructions. Of course there are endless variations on this simple theme, but you can easily make some of the best beer you ever tasted!
